Can Strong Gravitational Lensing Constrain Dark Energy?

چکیده
We discuss the ratio of the angular diameter distances from the source to the lens, Dds, and to the observer at present, Ds, for various dark energy models. It is well known that the difference of Dss between the models is apparent and this quantity is used for the analysis of Type Ia supernovae. However we investigate the difference between the ratio of the angular diameter distances for a cosmological constant, (Dds/Ds) Λ and that for other dark energy models, (Dds/Ds) other in this paper. It has been known that there is lens model degeneracy in using strong gravitational lensing. Thus, we investigate the model independent observable quantity, Einstein radius (θE), which is proportional to both Dds/Ds and velocity dispersion squared, σ 2 v . Dds/Ds values depend on the parameters of each dark energy model individually. However, (Dds/Ds) Λ − (Dds/Ds) for the various dark energy models, is well within the error of σv for most of the parameter spaces of the dark energy models. Thus, a single strong gravitational lensing by use of the Einstein radius may not be a proper method to investigate the property of dark energy. However, better understanding to the mass profile of clusters in the future or other methods related to arc statistics rather than the distances may be used for constraints on dark energy.

Galilean-invariant scalar fields can strengthen gravitational lensing.
The mystery of dark energy suggests that there is new gravitational physics on long length scales. Yet light degrees of freedom in gravity are strictly limited by Solar System observations. We can resolve this apparent contradiction by adding a Galilean-invariant scalar field to gravity. Called Galileons, these scalars have strong self-interactions near overdensities, like the Solar System, tha...
متن کاملConstraints on Scalar-Field Dark Energy from the Cosmic Lens All-Sky Survey Gravitational Lens Statistics
We use the statistics of strong gravitational lensing based on the Cosmic Lens All-Sky Survey (CLASS) data to constrain cosmological parameters in a spatially-flat, inverse power-law potential energy density, scalar-field dark energy cosmological model. The lensing-based constraints are consistent with, but weaker than, those derived from Type Ia supernova redshift-magnitude data, and mildly fa...

I review the current status of combing weak gravitational lensing with depth information from redshifts as a direct probe of dark matter and dark energy in the Universe. In particular I highlight: (1) The first maximum likelihood measurement of the cosmic shear power spectrum, with the COMBO17 dataset; (2) A new method for mapping the 3-D dark matter distribution from weak shear, and its first ...

Upcoming Weak Lensing (WL) surveys can be used to constrain Dark Energy (DE) properties, namely if tomographic techniques are used to improve their sensitivity. In this work, we use a Fisher matrix technique to compare the power of CMB anisotropy and polarization data with tomographic WL data, in constraining DE parameters. Adding WL data to available CMB data improves the detection of all cosm...

The distribution of image separations in multiply-imaged gravitational lens systems can simultaneously constrain the core structure of dark matter halos and cosmological parameters. We study lens statistics in flat, low-density universes with different equations of state w = pQ/ρQ for the dark energy component. The fact that dark energy modifies the distance-redshift relation and the mass funct...
